The Spanish conductor Martín Baeza-Rubio, born in Almansa, has received many appointments, prizes and distinctions as a trumpet player and conductor as well as recognition for his cultural and educative work in Spain and the rest of the world. After all his extraordinary orchestral experiences, he studied Orchestra Conducting with the prestigious conductor and Professor Jorma Panula. His personal relationship with Claudio Abbado, with whom he worked with for countless projects from 1996 until 2014, enriched his musical insight tremendously.
Baeza-Rubio is the Musical Director of the “Berlin Opera Chamber Orchestra” since 2013 and Music Director of the “Kammerensemble Modern der Deutsche Oper Berlin” since 2004, with whom he has been able to assist in the recognition of contemporary music around Europe. He is also the Artistic and Musical Director of the International Music Festival in Almansa since 2009. He is a member of the Corps of Professors for Music and Stages Arts from the Ministry of Education and Culture from Spain (now on leave).
His interest in humanistic formation inspired him to pursue a Doctoral Studies in Sciences and History of Music in the University of Madrid, which resulted becoming his Doctor Ph. in October 2016. In November 2003, he was unanimously awarded the First Prize in the “Third edition of the International Competition of Musical Investigation” organized by the University from the Basque Country and the Orfeon Donostiarra with a Work about the Maestro Fernández-Arbós.
Baeza-Rubio feels at home conducting opera as well as symphony concerts. He has recently conducted 11 times Don Pasquale in Switzerland, with Theatre Basel, with a great public and press success. He also celebrated a great success with his conducting 17 times the Spanish opera “La del Soto del Parral” in Sevilla and Madrid and 13 times “Curro Vargas” by Chapí at the “Teatro de la Zarzuela” in Madrid, Valladolid and in “Teatro Campoamor” in Oviedo. This production won the honor of being the “Production of the year” in Spain.
Baeza-Rubio had a great carrier as a Solo Trumpet before he began his carrier as a conductor. He finished his Trumpet studies in the “Real Conservatorio Superior de Música de Madrid” with the First Prize of Honor. He was in the Karajan Foundation of the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra from 1999 till 2002. In 2002, he won the position of the first solo trumpet in the “Deutsche Oper Berlin” (2002-2013). He was also a member of the “Lucerne Festival Orchestra” (2003-2013). He recorded for Cinema, Radio and Television in more than 20 countries and has participated in the recording of more than 100 CDs and DVDs.. He has taught in many Courses, Conferences, Masterclasses, etc...for all Europe, Asia and America. He left all his orchestra positions to fully dedicate himself to his conducting carrier.
He has played concerts in the more famous and important concert halls and Festivals in the world, with prestigious conductors like Abbado, Prêtre, Haitink, Maazel, Rattle, Runnicles, Boulez, Thielemann, Osawa, Baremboim, Masur, Mehta, Jansons, Welser-Möst, Chailly, Harnoncourt, Wand, Gergiev, Nagano, Sanderling, Zinman, Fischer, Menuhin, Salonen, Rostropovich, Temirkanov, Harding, Norrington, Marriner, etc… In the near future, he has many opera engagements and concerts with various orchestras from Europe, Asia and South America.
